Using the software Sketch on a Mac computer, I have been able to create 9 different film titles/film logos for my film/trailer. There are different sets, three sets of three, which have different themes attached. I decided to use these specific colours and fonts for many reasons which is expressed below.
The name of my film is called 'Absolution', as it relates to wanting to be forgiven, which is the main plot of my film; the main character Britney wanting to be forgiven for her sins, therefore feeling as if she has to get rid of the sins that surround her. The definition below, from Google, shows more about what this name means. The name also has a link with the religion of Catholicism, which is a big part of the film.
1st Set
The first set of logos is using a plain white background and black writing to outline the name of the film; Absolution. This first set is quite plain and normal, rather than focusing on being to loud and attention seeking.
The first one out of the set is in an elegant font, that is partly slim but also has some thick sides. The edges of the font are very straight which gives quite a serious look to the text. The next one out of the set is quite thin, some have said it is too thin, as the writing is just about able to see and make out. The name could potentially get lost in the white background. The last one in the set is more thick and a bit more similar to bubble writing, with round edges and a younger style.
The second set of film logos, is using the colours red and black. Red has connotations of warnings and blood, which makes the black in the film logo, look more sinister and evil. This helps to express further the narrative of the film, as there is the dark side to the twisted minds of the Catholic characters.
The first film title out of the second set is of a black square which is underneath the first part of the title and the writing of the film title is in red. The beginning of the word which is AB separates the word solution, which is the aim of the film. The next film title is very thin, but it holds a lot of class and elegance. There is a link with religion as the T in 'Absolution' is a cross which is using symbolism and links to the film trailer that I am creating. The last is very simple and just painted in red, the letters are quite spaced out as well and there is no links between the letters.
The last set of film logos is using the colours black and yellow. Yellow helps to define the black a little bit more, and gives an edge to the name of the film. It is more of a delicate colour in contrasting with the colour black; however the two colours blend very well together.
The first film title in this last set has the background colour of black but only over the section which says Solution. Having the background black, helps to see the words better, otherwise the lettering can seem quite hidden. The second has a shadow behind the text, making it look less thick and providing more depth; along with the cross which has replaced the T in the name. The last film logo is just in the plain colour yellow, and is quite hard to see with a background of white.
